Shattered: A Movement for Change Begins Now

Imagine a world where workplace injuries aren't just statistics, but stories of human resilience, community support and care.

We're not just making a documentary. We're igniting a revolution.

When Kathie Melocco discovered the heart-wrenching truth about systemic workplace injury abuse, she didn't just get outraged—she took action. Joined by Ballina Gee, these two fearless filmmakers are building a powerful movement to shatter the silence and restore dignity to injured workers and their families.

Social Impact: Overcoming the Betrayal: Tackling Stigma and Moral Injury for Workplace Injury Victims

Injured workers are Australia's largest unrepresented group, facing systemic abandonment without dedicated support or advocacy. Beyond physical harm, they endure moral injury - a shattering psychological trauma from witnessing actions that violate their beliefs, leaving them wracked with guilt, shame and a profound sense of betrayal. Tragically, the system meant to heal them instead causes further harm, in a perverse finance system masquerading as healthcare. It's time to confront this unacceptable reality and end the stigma and moral injury experienced by Australia's most neglected population - the injured workers failed by the very system meant to protect them.

The Problem: Workers’ Compensation: A Broken Promise

Workers' Compensation, designed as a safety net for injured employees, has become an abuse factory. This century-old system, unchanged since 1910, is particularly devastating for women—many of whom are victims of workplace assault, bullying, and harassment.

Key issues:

  • Economic abuse disguised as healthcare

  • Women excluded until the 1970s, still facing systemic bias

  • Lives shattered by an opaque, unaccountable process

This is the greatest unreported scandal in our country's history, affecting tens of thousands. It's time to shine a light on this broken system and demand comprehensive reform to protect all workers, especially our most vulnerable.

Kathie's Grandfather was killed at work in a quarry cave in in 1939. She travels back to the Lithgow NSW in the ShatteredDoco to try to make sense of the workers' compensation scheme that appears lost in time before meeting five incredible women who all tell the same story of abuse and harm in a system that is meant to heal.
