Shattered is an independent Australian documentary series examining how a century-old workers’ compensation system shapes recovery after workplace injury.
Nearly one hundred years after the introduction of the 1926 Workers’ Compensation Act — and as a new phase of reforms begins to be implemented — Shattered documents the evolution of the system and the human experience within it.
Over three years, production travelled across Australia — from regional communities to major cities — interviewing injured workers, families, clinicians, lawyers, employers and policy experts, while also reviewing historical and parliamentary records.
The documentary does not claim to speak for injured workers.
Instead, it brings together lived experience, professional insight and historical context to examine how recovery systems function in practice.

Why Partnerships Matter
Workers’ compensation systems sit at the intersection of several complex fields:
● healthcare
● insurance
● law
● workplace safety
● public policy
Understanding how these systems interact requires dialogue across disciplines.
Partnerships with Shattered help create opportunities for informed discussion about how recovery systems operate and how they may evolve.

Editorial Independence
Shattered is an independent documentary project.
We do not accept funding or partnerships that compromise the editorial independence of the film or conflict with its purpose: examining how workers’ compensation systems function in practice.
Transparency and integrity are central to the project.
